Patent Granted: AHV Leads the Way in Quorum Sensing Innovation for Animal Health
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Zwolle, The Netherlands – November 5, 2025 – Quorum-sensing-powered technology has officially been granted a patent, marking a major milestone in animal health innovation.
Scientific Breakthrough in Animal Health
Via the patented QSI Technology Extract, AHV (Animal Health Vision) International keeps animals healthy by influencing the quorum sensing of microorganisms, supporting resilience to biofilm-related disorders. This contributes to a reduced incidence of chronic diseases in ruminants, swine, poultry, and aquatic animals.

“Receiving this patent is a proud moment for our entire R&D team”, said Maarten van der Heijden, Chief Research & Product Development at AHV. “This confirms the scientific foundation of our quorum sensing approach and reinforces our commitment to developing natural solutions with proven results. By promoting animal health and reducing the need for antibiotics, we help lower the risk of antibiotic resistance, supporting consumer demands for animal welfare and food safety.”
Lex de Boer, PhD, Chief Innovation Officer at AHV, oversees the company’s patent portfolio and has played a leading role in developing and publishing this patent over the past five years: “Innovation is the result of bold experimentation that shapes the future of life on this planet. I’m proud to have been part of this journey—we’re creating a future where preventive care becomes the standard, not the exception.”
A Milestone for Farmers and the Future of Animal Health
More than 80% of bacterial infections are biofilm related (Abranches J., 2011). Biofilms are structured communities of microorganisms that attach to surfaces. This matrix shields bacteria from external threats, including antibiotics and the host’s immune system. AHV’s patented Quorum Sensing Inhibition (QSI) Technology, is able to avoid formation and maintenance of biofilms, enabling the immune system to eliminate biofilm-related disorders without milk/meat withhold and no antimicrobial resistance. This has a significant impact on animal health, sustainability, and the profitability of farms worldwide — as well as on the global food supply chain.

“I’m incredibly proud that our extract has been officially patented”, said Dr. Gertjan Streefland, Founder, DVM, and Chief Science Officer at AHV. “It’s a breakthrough not just for us, but for farmers and the future of animal health worldwide. This recognition marks a major milestone and validates the years of dedication, research and innovation behind our quorum sensing approach.”
